Mr. Walter S. Robertson to General Marshall

3907. At the meeting of the Combined Conflict Control officers on 11 June, the National Government member in connection with the discussion of the truce summary stated that the truce was scheduled to begin the 7th June. That beginning the 11th June if the Communist [Page 1034] did not cease their attacks in La Fa area, General Tu Li-ming would take retaliation action by resuming advance. Some time later the meeting was adjourned at the request of National Government member who was called from the meeting by Chief of Staff. The meeting was adjourned with approval of all members. The U. S. member does not feel that the statement and the call were in any way related. The National Government branch could not attend the meeting 12 June, due to shortage of qualified personnel that office. They made no indication of permanent withdrawal.
