Mr. Mao Tse-tung to the Appointed Ambassador in China (Hurley)
[Yenan,] 24 December, 1944.
Many thanks for your message which has been received. Preparations here for an important conference are keeping General Chow En Lai very busy making it difficult for him to get away. In our opinion the National Government has not yet shown sufficient sincerity to justify carrying on negotiations on our five point proposal. Our suggestion is that a conference be held in Yenan—Colonel Barrett being present if possible. We send our best regards.
Mao Tze-tung
