740.00119 European War 1939/2428
The British Ambassador ( Halifax ) to the Secretary of State
Washington , April 4, 1944.
Dear Mr. Hull: You will recall that on March 20th I left with you an Aide-Mémoire 35a about the application of the principle of unconditional surrender to minor Axis European States, explaining that a similar approach was being made to the Soviet Government. I now enclose a copy of a telegram from our Ambassador at Moscow36 giving the reply of the Soviet Government.
Can you now tell me anything more about the United States position?
Yours very sincerely,
