740.0011 European War 1939/8–2444
Memorandum by Admiral William D. Leahy, Chief of Staff to the Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy, to the Secretary of State
Washington, August 24,
1944.
Referring to your Secret BC of August 21, 1944,88 in regard to General Eisenhower’s proposal for the issue of synchronized order of the [Page 544] day to the troops under his, Stalin’s and Wilson’s commands, to the effect that the final battle has begun and that “all is up” for Germany, I am directed by the President to inform you that he does not consider the present time appropriate for the issue of such a statement.
William D. Leahy
- Supra. BC presumably refers to Division of British Commonwealth Affairs in which the memorandum of August 21 was drafted.↩
