75. My despatches Nos. 2807 and 2808 of March 20.48 The shortage of [lempira?] has now reached an acute stage, the Inter-American Highway contractors having just informed me that they will not be able to obtain enough to meet payrolls after another 3 weeks. They suggest that at least $300,000 in 50 cents pieces be forwarded immediately by Army airplane for their use. They also state that the United States Army Engineers Division of the War Department should be consulted in this connection. Telegraph reply urgently requested.
