The Ambassador in Turkey ( Steinhardt ) to the Secretary of State

124. Reference my 123, March 6. I have been informed in confidence by an entirely reliable source that the accomplices of the man killed in the bomb explosion, who have now been arrested by the Turkish police have by their confessions implicated several members of the Soviet Embassy in Ankara. My informant further states that one of the accomplices has taken refuge at the Soviet Consulate General in Istanbul, that the Consul General has thus far refused to allow the police to interrogate him and that the police have requested the Soviet Ambassador’s permission to enter the premises threatening to enter by force if necessary.
