158. Since my 155, May 1, I have seen President of Syria and his Foreign Minister in Damascus. Also Maronite Patriarch in Lebanon. Their response was most encouraging and all agreed when I told them we must forget all personal ambitions and petty political rivalries in order to defeat common foe as quickly as possible.
Incidentally Spears has not yet heard from London about memo in your April 28.19 I have briefly mentioned to him some of my reasons for preferring not to give it our official support immediately.
