The Chargé in Liberia (Wharton) to the Secretary of State
[Received 3:07 p.m.]
147. My British colleague states he has been instructed to request of Liberian Government, general permission for British aircraft flying between British West African territories to land on Liberian territory for purpose of refueling, if and when circumstances require. He has approached me to ascertain if I see any reason why such request should not be made. I have informed him I can see no reason, but have asked him to wait until I received Department’s views on matter before making his request. A reply to this telegram is therefore urgently requested.
