The Minister in Iran (Dreyfus) to the Secretary of State

118. Prime Minister was pleased when I conveyed to him the message contained in first sentence of Department’s number 92.3 He in turn asked me to express to Department his appreciation of the heartening information given by Department to Iranian Minister in Washington. He added that he would much appreciate immediate permission to announce the extension of Lease-Lend aid to Iran. A public statement to this effect he thought would not only strengthen his political position but also would reassure certain elements in the Majlis who are beginning to ask when and how the United States intends to assist Iran. The specific questions raised in Department’s number 92 are being investigated.
