The Chief of the Financial Division (Livesey) to the Financial Counselor of the British Embassy (Stopford)

My Dear Mr. Stopford: The Department has carefully considered the suggestion in your letter of March 17, 194228 that the United States Minister in Tehran be authorized to support the British Minister [Page 302] in resisting an increase in the pound sterling value of the rial. It does not appear to the Department, however, that our intervention with the Iranian authorities with regard to this matter would be advisable at this time.

Sincerely yours,

Frederick Livesey
