The Acting Secretary of State to the Ambassador in France (Leahy)

156. The future development in American-French relations depends in a large measure upon satisfactory assurances being received from the French Government in response to this Government’s communications concerning the status of French possessions in the Caribbean and furnishing of supplies to the Axis powers in North Africa which formed the subjects of the Department’s telegrams no. 140, March 2, 9 p.m. and no. 139, March 2, 8 p.m.75 You are requested again to bring these considerations to the attention of the French Government and to request an urgent response to the two communications in question.
