The Department of State to the British Embassy

Aide-Mémoire

In its aide-mémoire of December 1, 1942 the British Embassy has brought to the attention of the Department a question raised with Sir Samuel Hoare by the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs [Page 485] respecting the juridical status of Morocco as effected by the Allied occupation.

Should the question be raised again, this Government concurs in the reply proposed in the second paragraph of the Embassy’s aide-mémoire to the effect that it is not the intention of the United Nations to interfere with the juridical status of French Morocco or to seek to abolish the post of Resident General.
