I learn from a well-informed military source here that high military circles are very apprehensive that following the occupation of Madagascar54 the Germans may bring pressure on Vichy to admit them to a share at least of the defense of the French Empire particularly North Africa and Dakar because, the Germans are expected to say, you have proved yourself incapable of defending it.
