The Acting Secretary of State to the Ambassador in the United Kingdom (Winant)

1094. The Department understands that negotiations for the renewal of the Anglo-Belgian economic agreement affecting the Belgian Congo,1 which expired August 31, 1941, are now in progress. In view of the interest of this Government in many of the products of the Belgian Congo, you are requested to report as to the status of these negotiations. It seems to the Department that it might be desirable for you to be represented in these discussions; and your opinion on this subject is requested.
