465. In press interview Director of the Foreign Office Information Department stated that the United States has given many evidences [Page 35] of importance it attaches to the Pacific theater of the war (as distinguished from the European theater). He urged intensification of offensive against Japan and in conclusion asserted that “it is only a natural tendency of the war for Britain and the Soviet Union to put the defeat of Hitler before everything but it is equally natural that China, the United States and other nations bordering on the Pacific should regard the defeat of Japan as their most important role and logical requirement of the entire strategy of the United Nations”.
