In his telegram No. 918, August 7, 11 a.m., Ambassador Gauss reported to the Department: “With reference Embassy’s 913 of August 6, conversations with officials and information from provinces indicate that spokesman reflects general appreciation of American air assistance. Chinese appear primarily interested in continuation and increase of this type of aid.
