267. The British Minister informed me this morning very confidentially that he has received most reliable information to the effect that the Japanese Minister at Bangkok has reported to his Government that preparations are being made for a coup d’etat in Thailand with a view to organizing a new pro-Japanese Government. The British Minister said he had reported the matter to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for transmission to the Prime Minister.
