Your 223, February 5, 3 p.m. Since Irena Teodozja Pyk is an American-born American citizen,24 and since there is nothing to indicate that she has taken any action which would result in her expatriation, she is, in the circumstances, entitled to the protection of this Government. Please, therefore, unless you perceive some reason for not so doing, accord her every possible and proper assistance and keep the Department informed regarding developments in the case.

  1. She had been born at McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, on January 31, 1918, and had gone to Poland with her mother in 1928, residing in Lvov. Her father, who did not go, died in 1938. Miss Pyk applied for a United States passport, and filed an affidavit, in Warsaw on November 29, 1938.
