The Chargé in the Soviet Union (Thurston) to the Secretary of State

2077. The Counselor of the British Embassy34 informed me last night that Sikorski, acting on reports of impending American, British and Soviet discussions, has addressed a message to Stalin asserting the claim of Poland to participate. His claim apparently was based upon, among other considerations, the fact that Poland was among the first victims of Hitler’s war of aggression and the opinion “that Poland is the touchstone of the probity of the ideology of the Allies[”].
