740.0011 European War 1939/16108: Telegram
The Ambassador to the Polish Government in Exile (Biddle) to the Secretary of State
[Received October 24—4:25 p.m.]
Polish Series [No.] 39. My 37, October 14, 2 [4] p.m. Sikorski now plans to set out for Russia early next week. I understand he leaves with approval of Mr. Churchill, who desires him to assist, in cooperation with British military, in building up a Caucasus [group of military forces?].
[Page 257]Sikorski tells me he thinks of returning to England via the Far East and the United States and if he did so he would desire to call on the President. He would arrive between mid and end November. He has asked me frankly whether I know of any reason which renders such a visit inadvisable.16
- The Department replied in its Polish Series telegram No. 26, October 25, 1941, that “we know of no reason why proposed visit should not be made.”↩
