Your 279, June 8, 4 p.m. The Department desires that yon ascertain whether your interested colleagues, particularly your British colleagues, received similar notes and that you obtain their views with regard to the matter. When reporting thereon, please give the Department the benefit of your comment.
It is recalled that suggestions of a similar character put forward by the British some months ago did not meet with favorable reaction on the part of the Japanese.
