The Department is exchanging information and views with the British Government through its Embassy here and through our Embassy in London. The French Embassy here has also kept in touch with the Department. During the conversations which have taken place, we have stated that we are in favor of a general effort for the preservation of peace; that we have already made efforts; and that we hope that other governments would make efforts, each in whatever way seemed most practicable to it. We have asked the French Embassy to keep us informed of steps taken by the French Government.
