Memorandum by the Secretary of State

The British Ambassador called upon his own request and handed to me a memorandum (copy attached),23 giving the statement made by the Minister of State for Customs in the Commonwealth Parliament of Australia on December seventh. The Ambassador stated that he feels encouraged and gratified at this rather significant step in harmony with the proposed British and American trade agreement undertaking. I felicitated with him upon this phase.
