The Ambassador in China (Johnson) to the Secretary of State

551. Embassy’s 545, November 13, 5 p.m. The fighting of November 11 was confirmed by subsequent news despatches. It is further reported, and confirmed by independent sources, that an attack was launched on November 15 north of Taolin, East Suiyuan, by pro-Manchukuo forces operating with the assistance of airplanes and tanks. Fighting was still in progress yesterday at the time of the last report.
