The Consul General at Hankow (Josselyn) to the Secretary of State

65. My December 3, 4 p.m.22 Red movements at present uncertain. Chinese military Hankow state main force Reds are in central Hunan between Hsienhua and Supu and so far as they know are still moving westward. On the other hand telegram from Chihkiang received by Catholic Mission today states Reds retreating from that point. News received today from Changsha is more reassuring and former nervousness reported not now apparent.
2. All missionaries in western Hunan (referred to in my November 30, 4 p.m., paragraph 2) have now been heard from.
