The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Japan ( Grew )

35. Department’s instructions No. 639, November 19, 1934. We would appreciate receipt as soon as practicable of expression of your views.57

An official of the Bureau of Marine Products, Japanese Department of Agriculture and Forestry, who is now in the United States, manifested to an officer of the Department and to an officer of the Bureau of Fisheries interest in the possibility of revision of the Fur Seals Treaty.58 Have there been indications of a revival of interest in Japan in this matter?59

Please refrain from consulting Japanese officials in connection with either of these matters.
