The Swedish Minister (Boström) to the Secretary of State
Sir: I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your note of May 25, 1935, referring to the question of the treatment of shipping, which has been discussed during the negotiations leading up to the trade agreement, signed to-day between the United States of America and the Kingdom of Sweden.
Due note has been taken of the suggestion by the Government of the United States of America, that the subject of shipping should be dealt with in a separate treaty.
In accordance with instructions received, I have the honour to state that the Government of Sweden, being likewise desirous of confirming the principle of equality of treatment of shipping, which has been faithfully observed by the United States of America and the Kingdom of Sweden, highly appreciate your statement that the Government of the United States of America are prepared to enter into negotiations looking to the conclusion of such a treaty.
With renewed assurances [etc.]
