The Chargé in Greece (Aldridge) to the Secretary of State

105. My July 12 [11] 2 p.m. At the request of Mr. Maximos, to whom I had fully explained the Ulen difficulties as soon as he became Foreign Minister, I took Mr. Shepperd35 personally to the Foreign Office yesterday and the two men worked out a compromise agreement. The agreement was a verbal one and was not worked out in complete detail, as it was reached an hour before Mr. Shepperd left for the United States. For the time being, however, it apparently settles the company’s difficulties and Mr. Shepperd has expressed his satisfaction.36
