The Secretary of State to American Diplomatic Representatives in South America⁶⁶

Washington, February 12, 1935.

Sirs: The Department has been informed by High Commissioner James G. McDonald, representing the High Commission for Refugees (Jewish and others) Coming from Germany, and Mr. Samuel Guy Inman, that they are about to visit various countries of South America listed in the enclosed itinerary to treat with them concerning the entrance of some of the refugees into those countries.

You will please extend appropriate courtesies to these gentlemen, bearing in mind, however, that they do not represent the United States. There is enclosed for your information a memorandum⁶⁷ concerning the High Commission and this Government’s relation to it.
