The Consul General at Sydney (Moffat) to the Secretary of State
[Received September 26—5:14 a.m.]
Department’s September 23, 6 p.m. Proceeding to Canberra for week’s visit on October 1st.
The press here is no longer referring to the imminence of a trade treaty with the United States. Neither Squire10 nor I know of any present plan to send a special delegation to the United States to negotiate a reciprocal trade agreement though it is still expected that Gullett will stop over in Washington on his way home from Europe to explore the situation in greater detail than did Lyons. Gullett’s trade discussions with continental countries have to date been unproductive.
