The Secretary of State to the Turkish Ambassador (Münir)

The Secretary of State presents his compliments to His Excellency the Ambassador of Turkey and acknowledges the receipt of the Ambassador’s note of September 5, 1935, relative to the question of the production of “Forty Days of Musa Dagh” by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation.

In conformity with the telephone conversation between the Second Secretary of the Embassy and the Chief of the Division of Near Eastern Affairs a copy of the Ambassador’s note was communicated informally to the Honorable Will H. Hays, President of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, Inc. While the Department can of course assume no responsibility for the commitments of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, Inc., that organization has now informed the Department, with reference to the Ambassador’s note of September 5, 1935, that “the script has not been finished and will not go into production without the approval of the Turkish Ambassador”.
