The Consul at St. Pierre (Gunsaulus) to the Secretary of State

Referring to Department’s telegram of December 18th,83 the following telegram was sent to Halifax by the undersigned: [Page 445]
“December 18, noon. Have been informed unofficially that master of the Bodo received instructions from the Norwegian Government not to discharge on the high seas and that the alcohol is still aboard ship, and that providing money for duty is raised it will be unloaded here, also that vessel carries cargo of coal for Maufroy at St. Pierre-Miquelon and that alcohol is on top of coal. Will confirm as soon as possible and will report further developments.”
Bodo now at American House pier. I am conferring with Administrator and will report developments.
