[Received March 7—9:35 a.m.]
102. Department’s 85, March 6, 8 p.m. Press reports from Athens published here yesterday states that on March 4 Greek Government decided to deposit 27½ percent of the interest on foreign loans for 1933–34; that instructions had been transmitted to the Bank of Greece to transfer the necessary exchange for the payment of the coupons and that while depositing a similar proportion for French bondholders the Greek Government refused to entertain French claims for payment in gold francs and for referring questions to arbitration.
