The Chargé in Great Britain (Atherton) to the Secretary of State

No. 444

Sir: Referring to the Embassy’s despatch No. 391 of December 192 with respect to the agreement announced on November 17, 1933, concerning the external indebtedness of Greece, between representatives of the Greek Government, the League Loans Committee (London) and the Council of Foreign Bondholders, I understand that no actual payment has yet been made to the bondholders of the Greek Government 6% stabilization and refugee loan of 1928. At the Embassy’s request, however, Hambros Bank Limited, 41 Bishopsgate, London, E. C. 2, has agreed to forward it a copy of any notice relative to the partial payment of the coupons of this loan, whenever it is in a position to do so.

As of interest in this connection there is enclosed a copy of an article from the Times of January 193 on the subject of the League loans, written by Sir Austen Chamberlain, Chairman of the League Loans Committee (London).

Respectfully yours,

Ray Atherton
