The Acting Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Belgium (Gibson)

41. Your No. 63, June 30, noon. I have today presented the following letter to the Belgian Ambassador:

“I hasten to acknowledge with deep appreciation your communication of today’s date, in which you advise this Government that the Belgian Government has welcomed the President’s proposal, and that the Belgian Government, true to the spirit of cooperation which has always existed between the two countries, is ready to go forward with the President in this effort to promote harmony and reestablish confidence, and to forward the return of the world to economic stability.

“The American Government is much gratified to have this evidence of Belgium’s acceptance of the President’s proposal in the spirit in which it was made.”

The above will appear in to-morrow morning’s newspapers.
