The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Turkey (Grew)

47. Your 67, May 7, 5 p.m. The Department approves of the draft text with modifications suggested by the Foreign Office for use in the exchange of notes prolonging the commercial modus vivendi. It is considered desirable, however, that before proceeding to the signature of these notes there be substituted, in French, in lines two and three after “en attendant” and before “mon Gouvernement” the clause “the coming into effect of the commercial convention referred to in sub-paragraph A of paragraph two of the notes exchanged on February 17, 1927 concerning the relations between the United States and Turkey or the coming into effect of the treaty signed between the United States and Turkey on August 6, 1923.”29
