The British Ambassador (Geddes) to the Secretary of State
Sir: With reference to the Aide Memoire left by Mr. Chilton at the Department of State on March 18th, 1922,33 I have the honour to inform you that the British Delegation which is coming to the United States for the purpose of negotiations with the Debt Funding Commission will sail on the White Star S. S. Majestic on October 18th for New York and will be headed by the Right Honourable Sir Robert S. Home, P.C., G.B.E., Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Sir Robert Horne will be accompanied by a second delegate whose name is to be communicated later, by his private secretary Mr. P. J. Grigg, by Mr. Rowe-Dutton of His Majesty’s Treasury, and by Mr. Elphick as Treasurer of the mission. The party will also include one messenger and a personal servant.
I should be most grateful if the party could be afforded the customary facilities on their arrival at New York on or about October 24th.
I may add that the party will bring a small quantity of alcohol (probably one case) and I should be grateful if the necessary instructions could be issued to secure free entry for this as part of their personal baggage.
