The Ambassador in Great Britain (Davis) to the Secretary of State

2938. For the President from Colonel House. In reply to your telegram 5882.91 I shall be glad to remain as desired when we finish the mandates on September 9th and 10th. I shall return to Paris. If you approve I shall not plan to sail until after October 1st. In view of the statements I have made about date of return, would it not be well for White House or State Department to say that:

“The statement that Colonel House is about to return to the United States is incorrect. It will be necessary after he has finished his work on the Mandate Commission in London for him to return to his duties in Paris.”
