File No. 652.119/2023a
The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Spain ( Willard)
1736. For Chadbourne [from War Trade Board]:
No. 337. War Trade Board on suggestion of General Pershing has authorized McFadden to put himself at disposal of A.E.F. in undertaking the purchase of horses and mules in Spain. McFadden is advised that War Trade Board is prepared to support him fully either in exerting economic pressure upon Spain, or in granting concessions to Spain, as may seem best, and that it is prepared to take up the matter of securing vigorous and joint representation to Spain by Ambassadors there of Associated Governments. We are confident that McFadden will be much aided by the cooperation of your organization, which we have advised he may confidently rely on.
