File No. 654.119/218

The Secretary of State to the Minister in Switzerland ( Stovall)

[Telegram]

1888. For Dresel [from War Trade Board]:

No. 18. Legation’s 3244, May 5, 11 a.m. [3224, May 2, 3 p.m.], your 21.1 Lumber agreement and your signature thereto is approved. We will take under consideration three suggestions recited.

We have had surplus pork products during past two months, which surplus has now disappeared. The Food Administration may therefore not be able to permit the purchase of the total quantity of fats licensed. On account of great demand for steel and other products, you should particularly advise us of any Swiss applications for articles from United States which are for Allied purposes in Switzerland. What are proposed limitation of imports of American, Egyptian, and Indian cotton and what are limitations of exports under the new agreement?
