The Netherland Chargé ( De Beaufort) to the Secretary of State

My Dear Mr. Secretary: This Legation has received the request from your Department to facilitate the shipment of five barrels of flour, one case of ham, one case of bacon, one case of lard, and one box from your Department to the United States Minister at The Hague. I have at once cabled about this matter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and am today informed that the Netherland Government makes no objection to allow this shipment to go forward on a Netherland vessel and consigned to the Netherland Government. Where repeated large shipments of food for the United States Legation and consular officers prove that the United States authorities are convinced that food is exceedingly scarce in Holland, the Netherland Government trusts that the shipments of food for the Dutch people will be expedited.

While informing you of the above I remain [etc.]

W. de Beaufort
