No. 585. Referring further your 626, Embassy 10185, May 22, 5 p.m. We await authorizing your adherence to agreement pending receipt of full text thereof. We do not understand the proposals as to oil contracts, in view of discussions with the British which are proceeding here regarding allotments to companies in accordance with pre-war business.1 Please cable more fully in regard to apparent exclusion of Standard Oil Company which we understand has heretofore done practically all of the business in Iceland.

With reference to wool, we will take all wool obtainable provided this can be secured at current United States option prices. Bigelow is familiar with this. We will also take any amount of sheep skins at prices not exceeding the maximum here which is 14 cents per foot New York, c.i.f.
