The Secretary of State to President Wilson
My Dear Mr. President: I enclose for your consideration the draft of a treaty with Denmark,8 providing for the cession of the Danish West Indies, in consideration of Twenty-five Millions of Dollars. I hope you will find it possible to give this speedy attention, as I think we should close the matter up as promptly as possible, provided you agree with me as to the advisability of this action.
[Page 508]In regard to Article III,10 Item 3, my suggestion would be to make that conditional upon exhibition of the original documents, and their examination by our Minister at Copenhagen.
Faithfully yours,
