Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your dispatch No. 381, of the 17th ultimo, in which you state that you have been requested by the minister of foreign affairs of Portugal to convey sincere acknowledgments to Congress of the resolutions of condolence passed [Page 692] by the United States Senate and House of Representatives in view of the assassination of the King and Crown Prince of Portugal.

Copies of your dispatch have been transmitted to the Vice President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the information of the Senate and House of Representatives.
