Excellency: Referring to the department’s note of the 24th ultimo,1 I have the honor to advise you that the governor of Kentucky has informed this department that, as far as he has learned, no danger threatens the factories at points in Kentucky where the tobacco of the Royal Italian Tobacco Regie has been stored, but that it is the purpose of the State government to suppress the disorders if they should be renewed, and to do everything that is possible to protect life, liberty, and property.
