Sir: I have the honor to inclose herewith a
copy, with translation, of Their Majesties’ thanks, conveyed through the
ministry of state, for the congratulations of the President and
Government of the United States on the occasion of the providential
escape, unharmed, of Their Majesties, the King and Queen.

Excellency: His Majesty, the King, my
august sovereign, before whom I had the honor to place the contents
of the polite note of yesterday’s date which your excellency
addressed to me, has been pleased to command me to beg you to thank
the President and the Government of the United States for the
congratulations which were extended to His Majesty, as well as to
Her Majesty the

Queen,
for having escaped unharmed from the criminal attempt of which they
might have been victims, and also to express to your excellency his
gratitude for your personal share in these congratulations.
I avail myself of this opportunity to reiterate to your excellency
the assurances of my most distinguished consideration.
