Mr. Terrell to Mr. Olney.

No. 698.]

Sir: I have the honor to inform you that it is deemed most prudent to delay making a formal demand for payment of loss sustained by the burning of missionary property at Harpoot and Marash until a full statement of the amount of damages sustained is made and your answer to this dispatch by telegram is received. It is not probable that the amount of actual values destroyed will be known here before this reaches you. * * *

It is hoped that facts showing values destroyed will be fully known when this has reached you, and before acting I will await your telegraphic instructions.

I have, etc.,

A. W. Terrell.
