Your telegram received last night, regarding Lenz and missionary protection, indicates a better spirit on the part of the Turkish Government than your preceding telegram showed, and suggests that good management may avert proposed formal demand for passports.¹ Impress firmly on Turkish Government our right to be promptly answered as to just demands and our confidence that answers will be satisfactory.
