Your telegram¹ received last night regarding Lenz and missionary protection indicates a better spirit on the part of the Turkish Government than your preceding telegram showed, and suggests that good management may avert proposed formal demand for passports. Firmly impress upon Turkish Government our right to be promptly answered as to just demands, and our confidence that the answers will be satisfactory.
