Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 20th ultimo, addressed to Mr. Uhl as Acting Secretary, communicating copy of a telegram from the Governor-General of Cuba in regard to an alleged statement of “sailors” touching an entry in the log book of the Conde Venadito, relative to firing upon a vessel said to have shown the British flag off Cape Maysi on the 8th instant, which vessel the Governor-General supposes to have been the Alliança.
